STOP GIVING THEM RELIEF GOODS.

Please do not misunderstand me and start thinking I am the most cruel person. I have nothing really against the distribution of relief good. I have donated (though not as big as Pacquiao's) for the victims of typhoon Ondoy. But after almost two weeks after Ondoy, people are still relying on these relief goods. I saw a news coverage on the people living on a place where its still flooded. They said they went back to their home since "sanay na kami sa bahay, ang kailangan namin ng pagkain." And then I started to think, before the flood, where do they get their food from? Wala ba silang trabaho? Maybe the answer is yes. What about those people whose homes were destroyed, where will they live after the government asked them to leave because we need to use the classrooms.

Our government is just focusing on the symptoms, symptomatic relief..but not curing the reason of these sufferings. Flood, what caused it? What steps should be done to prevent this from happening again?

REUSE, REDUCE and RECYCLE. Its all the garbage we accumulate. When we buy food, we throw away plastic bag, plastic wrapper, plastic cup, plastic spoon.puro plastic. Di ba pwedeng pag bumili tayo ng food kung kaya ko namang hawakan, wag mo na pa plastic o kaya magdala ka lagi ng reusable na bag, like the green bags na uso ngayon. Stop yourself from accumulating things you dont really need. Whenever I buy one or two items, I just ask for the receipt.

REBUILD. Feeding programs just cure the hunger for one meal. Teach the people skills so they can be productive. Give them job opportunities. Encourage enterpreneurship. “Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime."

STOP GIVING THEM RELIEF GOOD, TEACH THEM HOW TO FISH.
SIDE NOTE: By the way, Lapu-lapu is my favorite fish hehehe
